Free Blog: The Final Problem

Bill Armstrong, Bryan Hartnell, two people who were heavily involved in the Zodiac case, but when I say their names you have no idea who they were. This is the basis of my next blog, I hypothesize that one of these men could have been the Zodiac, and I hope to shed some light on why I believe it may have been them.
We begin with Bill Armstrong. However, to discuss Bill's story I need to give you some background information on Detective Dave Toschi. Dave was the lead detective in San Francisco during the hunt for the Zodiac. Toschi was also very famous in the city and surrounding areas and most importantly he was the inspiration for one of Hollywood's most memorable characters, Dirty Harry. Now back to Armstrong, not much is known about the right-hand man of the famous detective, in fact I cannot any website, database, or book that mentions a Bill Armstrong living in San Francisco during the 1970's. This seems quite strange to me. I believe that Bill could have been the Zodiac because of the lack of media attention he received. He had a deep unconscious desire for attention most likely caused by a lack of attention from his mother during childhood. This also explains the Zodiac's hatred for women, Bill hated his mother thus he took his rage out on unsuspecting victims. Bill then joined the police force in an attempt to gain some recognition, but was immediately overshadowed by his partner Dave. Bill then devised a way for him to finally get the recognition that he so desperately needed. The Zodiac had access to several different types of ammunition and firearms, ones that a San Francisco police officer could have had access to. The only other point of evidence that I can explain about Bill is a letter written by the killer, it was a code similar to the other letters but it only contained three words and 13 characters. The letter read, "My name is _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _." It just so happens that Bill Armstrong is 13 characters, with no spaces of course.
Now let us talk about Mr. Bryan Hartnell. Bryan was the male half of the couple that was attacked by the Zodiac near Lake Berryessa. Hartnell and his girlfriend Cecellia Shepard were at the edge of the late when they were approached by a man wearing an executioner's hood signed with the Zodiac's symbol. The man then forced the couple to their knees while brandishing a pistol. The man had Cecellia tie Bryan's hands then the killer tied Cecellia down alongside Hartnell. The man then began to stab both victims, once again the killer focused too much on the woman and therefore the man survived.

This is a police sketch of how Bryan Hartnell described the attacker. I theorize that Bryan could have actually stabbed himself and Cecellia in an attempt to inject himself into the ongoing investigation into the Zodiac. Making himself a victim and therefore gaining power over the police would have given Bryan immense pleasure and reassured his belief that he was in fact smarter than the police. Bryan Hartnell was a criminology major in college and therefore would have a large amount of knowledge on how to evade police detection and how to ultimately get away with murder. Bryan Hartnell also coincidentally has 13 characters in his name.
Of course these are just theories, and I cannot completely confirm them, but they do have several interesting points that shed some light on the mysterious serial killer of the early 1970's.
